Balborinho is a small independent animation studio dedicated to the creation of author-driven films and projects. Our animations are born from a dialogue between art, technology, and resistance, exploring social, historical, and human themes through a poetic, critical language.

We work with Free and Open Source Software out of ethical and aesthetic conviction: we believe that the freedom of tools is inseparable from the freedom to create.

Balborinho is a legendary creature from traditional Portuguese folklore: a whirlwind of wind that appears mainly at crossroads, protecting or concealing witches or demons, and acting as a gateway between worlds and destinies.

But Balborinho also means hubbub, a collective murmur — a living noise made of unrest and ideas in motion. For us, it means telling stories that disobey, imagining possible futures, and opening space for other ways of seeing and acting in the world.
